Yanami Suwasai 2026 Experience
The Yanami Suwasai is a local Kiriko festival in Yanami, Noto Town. The evening procession begins at Hiyoshi Shrine, where the Kiriko join the mikoshi before moving through the community. The procession is accompanied by energetic calls and taiko music, creating a lively atmosphere as the community gathers to celebrate and pray for prosperity.
A Brief History
The festival has traditionally featured several Kiriko from the surrounding communities. In recent years, however, a shortage of people to carry the Kiriko has affected the scale of the celebration. The festival has also provided opportunities for university students to participate in the procession.
Festival Experience
On our way to Anamizu to visit the Okinami Tairyou Matsuri, we spotted a Kiriko along the way and decided to stop and take a closer look. The towering Kiriko immediately caught our attention.
Just a short walk away, we found two more Kiriko standing by, waiting for the festival to begin. Yanami Suwasai was not originally on our list of festivals to visit, so finding it along the way was an unexpected addition to our day. Happy to have added another festival to the list!
